If you believe that "big drug companies" are corrupt and just out for the money, if you believe in the elitism of the scientific mind, or you're just too happy and need to be depressed then this is the perfect book for you. Atwood once again writes brilliantly about the end of mankind as we know it....
I started reading Oryx and Crake thinking it would be a 3 star book for me. The reason behind the meager initial rating of otherwise a brilliant writer was the fact that I didn't like 'The Handmaid's Tale' as much as I thought I would have. It is a classic dystopian fiction but nevertheless, I found...
Alright... 30%... put a fork in it...Next...(I've read 25% of this now and absolutely nothing has happened... Just on and on about some Middle Schoolkid's lunch habits.... I have no idea why I'm doing this... Something must be wrong with me....!? Either I have no bloody taste for good books, or I'm...
Snowman has spent a terrible night, full of confused, whiskey-sodden dreams, and when the Children of Crake call to him from the bottom of his tree he is still mostly asleep."You don't exist!" he shouts. "You're not even characters in a Margaret Atwood novel! You're just part of a review. And Manny ...
Update: I keep being advised by goodreads that my reviews are being flagged and removed from the community pages, whatever that means. This is one of them. I think the idea is to make it hard for goodreaders to find my reviews.I am (albeit slowly) removing my reviews from goodreads since it has beco...

Futuristic, bad new world in the wake of an unspecified environmental/ genetic engineering disaster, told from the viewpoint of a nostalgic but detached survivor. It is as much about personal relationships, sexual exploitation, sexual freedom, religion, creation and original sin as it is cyber-punk ...
This was an excellent book, the writing almost flawless. But disturbing, very disturbing. I'd been feeling guilty about not having read more Atwood, but now I remember why! Atwood has a knack for zeroing in a seemingly minor human flaw, and working it out to it's most most horrifying finale.
Couldn't finish it, just didn't engage. But it's Margaret Atwood, and I appreciate her too much to grant her anything less than an ok, whether I like it or not.
