Osamu Tezuka (1928-89) is the godfather of Japanese manga comics. He originally intended to become a doctor and earned his degree before turning to what was then a medium for children. His many early masterpieces include the series known in the U.S. as Astro Boy. With his sweeping vision, deftly interwined plots, feel for the workings of power, and indefatigable commitment to human dignity, Tezuka elevated manga to an art form. The later Tezuka, who authored Buddha, often had in mind the mature readership that manga gained in the sixties and that had only grown ever since. The Kurosawa of Japanese pop culture, Osamu Tezuka is a twentieth century classic.Photo by Unknown, scanning and editing was done by Ogiyoshisan (Last edited Desember 27, 2013) [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons.

I can honestly say that I have no idea how the heck this book was the manga that ‘started’ the shounen manga or inspired manga artists with their successful shounen series such as Dragon Ball. This manga is just kinda out there that I have absolutely no idea how I was going to rate this. First off...

So, this is where I gave up on this series. One of the perils of being incredibly awesome is that if you start to be marginally less awesome, you get judged pretty harshly for it. If I'd started a new manga series written and drawn at the level of this volume of Black Jack, I would love it. This is n...

This volume is another one of those that didn't really do it for me. I mean, there's no such thing as a BAD volume of Black Jack in my opinion. But the stories in this definitely feel a bit... less? Than their previous counterparts. I didn't feel like I was seeing as much of Black Jack in a lot of t...
