3.5 star review.Really interesting, but also rather dry which is probably why it took me so long to read. Well worth the effort though, as it's filled with anecdotes and tidbits about space travel that I had no clue about!Like that you can't actually feel you have to pee before it's almost too late,...

Book ReviewI joking remarked that the sub-title for this book should be everything you ever wanted to know about peeing, pooping, puking and screwing in space, but were afraid to ask. But in all seriousness, there is at least one chapter if not more devoted to those major bodily functions, intertwi...

Mary Roach writes some of the best nonfiction out there, hands-down. It is entertaining, enlightening, questionable, grimace-causing, hilarious, and I can't do with out it. This is my third Roach book and I have learned incredible amounts from each. She does not shy away from the bits of a subject t...

Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void is a 5-stage Rocket Booster to the stars, one of the absolute best science books I have ever come across. It should be read in every high school for science class. After all what kid could ignore a text book with so many funny stories about b...

As much as I've enjoyed Mary Roach's previous books, PACKING FOR MARS beats them all when it comes to leading me giggling down a road that would otherwise be left untraveled. Sex and death are fairly human preoccupations, but I had never been caught up in the drama and grandure of the space race. ...

A fun and lighthearted look at some of the history of the engineering around keeping mammals alive in space. While the author's interjections of her own observations of the engineers and technology are insightful and funny, it felt like they were used as filler to make up for a gap in either knowled...

Giggle inducing. Should probably be required reading for SF writers though.

This was my first Mary Roach book. Several of my friends enjoy her work and find her extremely funny, so I had high expectations going into this. It was an overall interesting and entertaining book, and I learned a lot about space and what all goes into the extremely expensive and tedious process of...

All the things you never knew you wanted to know about space travel (all the things NASA doesn't want you to think about). My favorite part was the chapter about pooping in space. A whole chapter. Really.
