Actual Rating: 3.5 StarsThings I liked:• Fluid writing that was so effortless I didn't even think about it. I just read.• Perfect dialogue. Just perfect.• Yovanoff seems to have an innate ability to find the haunted aspects of anything, and although I'm not easily spooked, I could enjoy the imagery....
For more, visit my blog, A Little of the Book Life I went back and forth before settling on 5 stars. The ending felt a bit rushed for me, but the world she created, the fact that I forgot I was reading most of the time, bumped it up to a five star rating for me.The characters were amazingly done. 2.5"The city of Ludlow is gripped by the hottest July on record."And you know what? My city is gripped by the coldest Jan on record(me thinks). I was hoping the book would be as lyrical and smooth and well, relateable. I could hardly relate to the main character. I am not saying she was a bad one. She was unique but ...
I love Yovanoff's characters, and her plot, but mostly I love her settings. There's this tangible darkness that feels so palpable and real. Like you can reach out and touch it and the texture is divine.
Creepy! Read it from start to finish in one sitting. A lot is going on in this book and it can be hard to keep up with what is meaningful to the storyline, but I still heart me some Brenna Y.
