Pretty good world-building. The twists and turns are pretty obvious, except maybe for the end, which is kept vague (which I liked). I am tempted to continue with the series.
The only reason I am not giving this a 5 star rating is because I found several references to animal cruelty during the war to be too disturbing for me personally, and they severely detracted from my pure enjoyment of this book. The narration was outstanding - I loved having the multiple narrators...
Read this review at Smash Attack Reads! http://www.smashattackreads.com/2011/10/gregor-overlander-exciting-adventure-of.htmlMy interest in the book: Hello! It’s a reimagination of Alice in Wonderland! If you don’t yet know, I’m a major lover of Alice and I usually enjoy a new spin on the tale.My Syn...
Following a familiar pattern in epic fantasy, this book (the first in a trilogy) introduces us to the main character, Azoth, who starts the book as a young street rat with nothing but his wits, and ends it as one of the deadliest warriors in the kingdom, with super-ninja powers, a magical talent, an...
I’ve read and heard many things about Marco Polo but I have never previously read a detailed narrative about his adventures. Several years ago I tried to read a version of The Travels of Marco Polo but found it not well written and I didn’t finish. When I learned about his book I decided it was ti...
First impression after 5 chapters (about 1 hour): It's more children book than the HG were, but it's still great and well written. Thee way Collins characterized Gregor and 2-year old "Boots" is so cute. I'm already in love with these kids. And Paul Boehmer is an excellent narrator.I just finished th...
Have these Underlanders ever, since Mr. Sandwich took them below, had a non-prophecy day? It seems to me that Gregor is always hopping down the air shaft to go fufill some underground prophecy and no one bats an eye (or eyes a bat, ha ha ha), like prophecy-fulfilling is a daily thing, something ever...
I would recommend reading this book, not listening to it. Paul Boehmer's voice isn't really suited to a childrens book; I think he should stick to thrillers and adult non-fiction.Having said that, this is a good story. It's definitely aimed at the 8-12 crowd so is simplistic, at times, and Gregor is...
Gregor and his sister Boots fall through a hole in their laundry chute to the Underland and the surprises and adventures there. A great book for "boys who don't like to read."
