As seen on Stumptown Books.I was in the mood for some simple farmboy-to-prophesied-savior fantasy. Usually I save this sort of thing for the winter, when I want comfort food, but, well, the reader's heart wants what it wants. So I picked up the first book of what is generally considered one of the p...

Well, this is the first book in what was initially a series of five books which then exploded out into a series of ten books - and yes, I read them all. Having a quick glance across the comments made and the ratings given it seems that this was quite a popular book. To be honest, when I read the ser...

I tend to go for more modern fantasy (Neil Gaiman), stuff that blends classic fantasy tropes with modern sensibilities (Neil...

Another fantasy book that hooked me in to the genre and delighted and inspired me to write myself. I fell in love with the character of Garion and ALL the characters that David Eddings explores in this and the other books of this series. He is an amazing writer who just weaves a dream for you to e...

I read this in high school and loved it. The further on I read in the series and subsequent series, the more cliches I noticed. The prose is forced and highly adverbial ("...he said sardonically."..."he droned" etc). A wide array of characters traverse the globe on a quest of sorcery.
