Emily is a maidservant in the house of an earl in afictional 16th century locale called Emerland. Thestove makes the kitchen too hot, and there's alwayssomething more to be done, but Emily is not one to sulkwhen there are better ways to pass the time. Soonthough, she finds trouble in her employment andseeks refuge in the forest. There, she makes friends,travels, and learns much about herself and thesociety she lives in. There are many othercharacters throughout who may meet up from timeto time. The dialogue is written in early-modernEnglish and verse (as the commonly spokenlanguage of the day) while the story is told inmodern-day English.
