For the full review, please visit Thoughts and PensCompared to The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife is tamer in terms of battle and gory scenes but nevertheless a stunning momentum to unravel the climax of the whole story (which I hope would be magnificently delivered in the third book). It mostly ...

I reviewed His Dark Materials as a series, so you can read my non-spoiler review here. There's less action and a hell of a lot more story-meat in this book. I'm enjoying it immensely, especially for all of the John Milton tones. It also has a beautiful synthesis of anthropology and religion that I can't help but giggle at.

It's funny. I was all set up to hate this book. I mean, it's all about how the war in heaven went down with the wrong side losing. God is an evil dictator. As a member of the LDS church and a Christian that stands against everything I stand for. Except well.... It didn't. After all this book wa...

A great read, pretty much as enjoyable as the first. Lots more information about the worlds and tying up a couple of loose ends, ten right at the end everything goes all mysterious again. I will definitely read the last one soon. Phillip Pullman is an exceptional writer, and I can tell alot of thoug...
