Seriously? One of the most amazing steampunk books I've ever read. So funny, sharp and brilliant. The partnership between Wellington and Eliza works to a tee. She is like a female version of Robert Downey Jr. - cocky, slightly reckless, crazily entertaining and very wordly. Welly on the other hand...

This was a reasonably decent addition to the list of steampunk books I've read. It isn't my favorite, but it wasn't bad either. I enjoyed the two main characters & their development as characters was probably my favorite part of the book. Things I didn't like were the shifting viewpoints (some point...

Despite an action packed opening and ending, the layer of colloquialisms and corny humor overlaying this story smothered most of my interest. With THE JANUS AFFAIR next on my TBR list, I kept soldiering through this book to make sure I was up to speed. I hope book two relies less on steampunk trop...

This was a really fun romp through steampunk Victorian England.! The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that I found one vital plot point completely unrealistic even taking suspension of disbelief into account. Otherwise - very much enjoyed it and will be reading the next in the series.

I cannot thank my friend Christy enough for recommending this book to me. I absolutely loved it! I will admit that my steampunk knowledge is cursory at best, so I am unsure as to how this book would stack up against others in the genre, but it worked for me.This book hits the ground running in ...

Having heard Pip Ballantine occasionally on some podcasts (notably Metamor City) I kept hearing her voice when Eliza D Braun spoke, and it brought a smile to my mouth, however I loved Wellington Thornhill Books. He is such a great character, but then again I may be a little biased, he's such a cool ...

Phoenix RisingFast, entertaining, gripping, and humorous. Phoenix Rising features a dynamic duo with great chemistry and a lot of enjoyable banter. Great world-building and characterisation. Also: depiction of sexual debauchery including the drugging of unwilling participants and hunting humans. The...

When I started this book, it seems as though I was ready for something fun and witty and action-packed, because I completely loved this.I like steampunk, but I haven't read a lot of the genre, mostly because there's so much now, and I can't separate what looks good from what doesn't. Thank goodness ...

Miss Eliza Braun first meets archivist Wellington Books when she saves him from captivity. Like all missions involving Braun, she does not completely follow orders, and leaves behind a trail of destruction. Her punishment is to be sent down to the archives to assist Books with cataloging the Minis...

Read This Review & More Like It On My Blog!4.5 out of 5This was just great fun for me to read once it hit its stride - Phoenix Rising has nice mix of the best elements: a finely tuned use of steampunk and its gadgets, two vastly different but strangely compatible, rounded main characters, amusing ba...
