I don't agree with his arguments and conclusions but I find it both thought-provoking and enjoyable.

There are two volumes to this set. Shorey's is the best English translation, bar none - and probably the best translation there is -- Though Robin's French translation is important, as is Apelt's German. They, however, do occasionally get things wrong. But what really makes this Loeb most valuab...

It seems somewhat silly to rate The Republic. Despite what one thinks about the book, it’s impact is unquestionable on Western thought. I fully understand and agree that you can't understand Western intellectual history without reading Plato.But it doesn't mean I have to like it.

For a work of ancient literature and philosophy the ideas are still relevant. I think this is one of the only books I had to reread for comprehension. It's not so much that the ideas are too complex, but the metaphors and allegories are. You can extract new meaning form them time and again.

I just didn't like it. There's nothing wrong with it, I just didn't really understand it, and wasn't really interested in what I did understand.
