I have read a lot of strange, weird, and bizarre fiction over the years, but I do believe Glitter & Mayhem may just be the oddest collection of stories I have ever come across. I'm not talking avant-garde or surreal, as is so often the case with Bizarro fiction, just plain old . . . well, odd. As yo...

The stories aren't bad, but the only stand-out entry is Sofia Samatar's "Bess, the Landlord's Daughter, Goes Out for Drinks with the Green Girl," which covers some of the same territory as Helen Oyeyemi's Mr. Fox, but in a whirl of bars and flirtations and dancing and friendships and escapes that co...

This would be more of a 3.5 star book because it's fairly uneven. Some of the stories are excellent, others not so much. Full review later, but I'd like to mention that Catherynne Valente's contribution, One Breath, One Stroke, was very, very good.

I'm not really sure this is fantasy. Allegory might be a better genre.

As with any anthology, there were stories I loved and stories I really didn't like. Overall, I thought it started weaker than I expected, but by the the time I was done, it had won me over.It includes:“Elegy for a Young Elk” by Hannu Rajaniemi. I recently read his acclaimed 'Quantum Thief' and didn'...
