reat as ever! It is truly admirable how well Pratchett can still write. There's a bit less humour than in earlier books, but the book is still mostly fun to read. Be warned - he also handles some pretty dark topics, like terrorism and racism, and I don't remember there being as much death in other D...

Moist von Lipwig is once again set upon by the seemingly omniscient Vetinari to be the lovable face of the new Railway service, devised by a young lad with a flat cap and a sliding rule and funded by the Diamond King of Trolls, with his wife on hand to provide the interiors. The Goblins are back, as ...

Terry Pratchett has another winner. I love the way Terry use a common place item, be it money or train, to make a great story. Now, Dick had invented an engine. What would happen to it and how it is connect to business, con, and government. That is the frame of the story. What's happening in ...

And once again, Mr Pratchett undervalued the use of chapter breaks. Granted, about half the books I've read by him are like that, but sometimes It's useful to know where to stop for the evening. Moist finds himself representing Ankh-Morpork's interest in the development of the railroad...or rather...

I'm as big a Discworld fan as you're likely to find, but I don't rate all the books equally. There are some truly lovely moments in here and as always Moist von Lipwig is thoroughly enjoyable, but the throughline isn't as solid and the layers don't add up the way I expect them to in Pratchett's nove...

I'm not hugely familiar with Terry Pratchett and Discworld as other fans are, but my real introduction to the series -- Going Postal -- was a great read with engaging characters and a fascinating look at how stamps came to be. Sure, it was a fictional fantasy story, but it felt like Pratchett did h...

Loved the book - seeing Moist in action again was brilliant! One thing that bugged me though: Vetinari seems quite out of character in this book - particularly in relation to Moist. He's a bit too cruel in my opinion ... Does anyone else think differently? Would love to hear some thoughts :)

Steam locomotion has come to Ankh-Morpork and Vetinari has delegated* Moist von Lipwig to take care that the industry develops smoothly. He would also like a line to Uberwald. Yesterday.I acknowledge that the character of Pratchett's writing has changed in the last 8 years, most of us have been taki...

This was great--I'm glad Terry is back!! The last one was only so-so, making me go into this one with a little trepidation. Buy this title from Powells Books

Pratchett condenses the development and spread of steam trains into a single novel. And because he does this, it's not just a love song to trains and trainspotting, but also a social history that includes banditry, and terrorism, and social improvements like housing and food safety improvements as w...
