I love how Chevalier deals with her theme. It's not just a story about a girl with a knack of finding fossils, but also about friendship, a spinster's life, society's rule of behavior and last but not least reaction on the finding of something so new and unsettling from the past and how it shakes th...

I read this book in one day it was so good. The main character simply broke my heart. I think this book gave a perfect example of "the class levels" and the wealthy using those having lesser means as pawns...just broke my heart.

I am a long time fan of Ms. Chevalier because she can literally transport the reader to whatever era she is writing about. She does it again with this book, taking us to a cold and lonely stretch of beach in search of “curies”. Mary Anning is our heroine and we follow her as she grows up in a ti...

Finished: I am glad that is over! I think I chuckled maybe once. The prose was stilted. I have never run into such a bunch of miserable souls. A huge disappointment. I absolutely adored this author's book Girl with a Pearl Earring. Through page 183: Ahhhh, I am laughing. The two main woman characte...

Remarkable Creatures, despite a slow start, surprised me! I have always been interested in archaeology and this book gave me new insight, it made me look at the past in a different way. Everyone has read about the men who “discovered” fossils and skeletons…but were they the ones who actually found t...

Chevalier once again gives life and breath to not one but two women the world knows very little about. The young Mary Anning and spinster Elizabeth Philpot live out an extraordinary and beautiful friendship, along with all of it's major ups and downs-and by that I mean jealousy, sacrifice, and Blue...

I am a huge fan of Tracy Chevalier and her latest book doesn't disappoint. I loved the friendship between the two main characters, (each told from their points of view), of Mary Anning and Elizabeth Philpot. This story builds upon historical facts that both of these ladies discovered and collected...

Remarkable Creatures is the story of a friendship between two extraordinary real life women – Mary Anning and Elizabeth Philpot. One could even call it a platonic romance of sorts as that’s really the trajectory the story follows. Elizabeth Philpot was, for lack of a better word, an old maid sent ...
