Well, this just isn't happening. Not right now, at least. I just can't concentrate on the audiobook. The narrator has a really flat delivery, which is just dragging it down for me. Maybe I'll try this again, on paper.

I love stories about alien artifacts and Rendezvous with Rama is always heralded as one of the classics of that particular subgenre. The problem is that it is not a good book. There is basically no characterization and the utopian future Clarke describes feels so silly that it's painful to read. Tha...

what a trip! a literaturist's delight is RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA, with pitch-perfect revelation and drama, and, alas, Clarke's cynical awareness that less is more. you're perfectly entitled to despise this work after completing it on the basis of the quantity of what is revealed, although of course Cla...

Rendezvous With Rama starts off where lesser books would climax. To begin with parts of Italy are wiped out by an asteroid leading to the creation of the Spaceguard system for detecting future asteroids well in advance of collision so that preventative measures can be taken. Along comes another huge...

A good book, but would probably have been even more effective if even less of Rama had been comprehensible to it's human visitors. As is the case with so much science fiction the psychology and character development is less impressive than the world creation.

Great book - unique story and a very different read for me. I've read some sci-fi before, but very little as "hard" sci-fi as this. There were a few places where the "technicalities" made me almost skim the text a bit, but I persevered and I was rewarded :)The story and the characters are really wel...

I wouldn't call this exactly a story with a conflict. It's much closer to a travelogue of a group of people's explorations through the interior of Science Fiction's greatest Big Dumb Object.

Like a Lovecraft story, but without the amusing over-reliance of bad adjectives, this one presents seemingly geocentric aliens running around town in a big cylinder. The vast majority of the story is the exploration of the cylinder. Things happen therein. The more interesting parts are at the Uni...

Rendezvous with Rama is a science fiction mystery as the solar system encounters a spacecraft that has come from the far reaches of space and is immense in scale. Clarke’s style and storytelling is unlike any other science fiction author that I have read, there is no dumping of science upon you, the...
