I really tried to finish this book, but it just wasn't happening. The synopsis sounded amazing and I couldn't wait to read it. Unfortunately, there was way too much sciency stuff. The action scenes were fairly decent, but they weren't enough to keep me reading. I guess this just wasn't my type of bo...

I finally finished it.I really had trouble getting into this book -- so much so that I've been trying for years to read it, up to and including trying different formats (print, e-edition, audiobook), even though it's come highly recommended, especially to fans of Peter F. Hamilton, of which I am an ...

Alastair Reynolds has very good ideas when it comes to the plot of his books but I always find them slow going. Part of that is due to the number of pages as he seems to have a case of Stephenson-Martin disease, but also he's just too wordy when it comes to the science. I may garner knowledge as to ...

Ohhhh, this is fabulous. The world-building is staggering (we're looking at a fantastical yet plausible history of the universe over a few BILLION years here), the plot is a page-turner, the concepts, the aliens, the tech, the science, the physical augmentation, etc., etc. ... everything worked real...

There is no getting away from Alastair Reynolds. In the sf book discussion forums I participate in (Reddit) his name is always cropping up. I keep putting him off as I have too many books on my list, but the relentless mentions he gets is like he is tapping on my shoulder saying "When are you gonna ...

Sometimes the ideas and thoughts I want to express are difficult to formulate into words that give justice to my thoughts. It is as if English does not have the facility to express these thoughts, even though that is clearly not the case. Initial impressions with this book had me worried that it wou...
