A very readable story of a husband and wife who are determined not to be an ordinary couple. They believe they are special with sophisticated tastes and thoughts. In reality, they are both shallow. Their long conversations actually say nothing important. They are extremely selfish, especially Apr...

Oh I loved this book so much! When I first started reading it I thought "OK, this book is about a couple" and then it became about their relationship, and then about their flaws and problems, but then I realised this book is about so much more. It focuses on everything from hopes and aspirations, wo...

I had seen the movie based on this book and loved it. Saying that, and if it is possible, the book is even better than the movie.

Beautifully woven tale told over the years of the traumatic breakdown of Frank and April Wheeler, a once-promising couple living in America during the twentieth century. Quickly dispirited with their allotted version of the American Dream, their lives and marriage decompose before their eyes, writte...

Heartbreakingly beautiful. I think this is the only story I've ever read or seen that has ever caused a painful emotional reaction in me so powerful that I found it hard to finish, even though I wanted to. There are parts of this that are absolutely true. Yates explores the dark side of young mar...

There's a quote on the back of my paperback copy of this book from a New York Times Book Review, calling this a "perfect" novel. I have to agree. Well, I might have added more insight into April's character, but pretty close to perfect.

Awww... Frank and April, what a sweet couple...Yates' spins a yarn that smacks of that late 50s suburban angst. Frank reminded me of Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman- living a life a disillusionment and happy as punch to be doing so. The writing is truly 5-star, pure and authentic, and I'm curious ...

That's it. This story bewitched me. From the beginning to the end. I like every word of this book, all the feelings that it gave me. I even enjoyed the tears I shed late at night when I closed the book. In my opinion, this book is a complete masterpiece. And everyone should read it, or see it. Tragi...

Sortof a chick book, but I like authors who are really perceptive about the way people work.
