Egads, reading Burns makes Shakespeare look like a stroll in the park. So many unknown words! I had to have a dictionary by my side at all times and, even if I got the hang of most words 'cause they were constantly repeated, for if I put the book down for a day or so I would go back to square one. I struggled to get much out of this and I don't think it's really Burns' fault. To get any real appreciation one must both hear it in a Scots accent and understand the Scots dialect it is written in.
