Since childhood, Sabriel has lived outside the walls of the Old Kingdom, away from the random power of Free Magic, and away from the Dead who refuse to stay dead. But now her father, the Charter-Mage Abhorsen, is missing, and to find him Sabriel must cross back into that world. With Mogget, whose feline form hides a powerful, perhaps malevolent spirit, and Touchstone, a young Charter Mage, Sabriel travels deep into the Old Kingdom. There, she confronts an evil that threatens much more than her life—and comes face-to-face with her own hidden destiny.Selected Audiobooks for Young Adults (American Library Association)Audiobooks Too Good to Miss (Capitol Choices)

3.0 Sabriel (Abhorsen Trilogy Series #1)
I feel almost as bad about my lackluster feelings about this book as I do the fact that I've never made it all the way through a Tolkien novel. It's like a betrayal of nerdkind. But, well. I thought Sabriel had a lot of really great elements, but none of the elements were given the attention they de...

Death is a living thing, with motives and secrets; it's almost as if death is another character in the story. The tools Sabriel uses are peculiar, also; I though...

4.0 Sabriel (Abhorsen Trilogy Series #1)
So this book got off to a slow start for me. I wasn't really invested in it until about half way through. For a long time the reader is in the dark about what was going on, which might be enticing for some people, but it left me frustrated. Once things pick up though, I found it interesting.

Lively and creative, Garth Nix's Sabriel shines with imagination and invention. The magic system is simple, but clever and unique to his world. Also original and intriguing is Nix's concept of a long barricaded Wall, one that separates the dreaded dangerous Old Kingdom where the Dead can gain Life a...
