This is the sort of easy to digest, wallpaper historical I don't read much any more, but the plot intrigued me. It's very cliched virgin widow, Big Mis, etc. and episodic though, and the characters are irritating -- Lily is as hotheaded and easily manipulated as Marty McFly.
