I’m slow when it comes to that, as most of you have probably figured out, but I’m really happy I finally decided to grab this one. I can finally say I know what Grisha are and who The Darkl...

I should have read this one sooner because oh my gosh, it is so good. I really enjoy fantasy and haven’t had a chance to read any Young Adult fantasy in a while so when I kept hearing great things about Shadow and Bone, I had high hopes. See my review of this book, and many more, at Tales from the Great East Road. Tonight may be Alina Starkov’s last, for tomorrow her battalion travel across the Shadow Fold – a mass of darkness, swarming with man-eating monsters. Few are expected to survive. Alina worries for her safety, but more so ...

I didn't care for this at all until the very end. Alina was annoying and the emphasis on physical appearance was very pronounced. However, the last couple of chapters redeemed this somewhat. Will try book two, but only if the library has it.

There is something about stories of childhood best friends that I find utterly compelling no matter how used and abused they are by authors across genres. Maybe it's because I am almost always guaranteed themes of survival, dramatic separation, and romance - all of which were wonderfully executed in...
