May 21-24Summary-Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling t...
Disclaimer: If you loved Shatter Me, perhaps don't read this review. I didn't. First Impressions: Unnecessarily flowery and convoluted prose was not only annoying but made finishing this book impossible for me. It is extraordinarily rare for me to fail to finish a book I've bought, but I really co...
First of all a big shoutout to Mada for loving it and recommending it to me. I see where you're coming from. The story on it's own was entertaining, but the writing style was murder. I had only two complaints in that department but as those two things encompassed the entire novel I have to say they'...
**Purchased Copy** I liked it. When I first started this book the style of it was a little iffy to get used to (Juliette crossing out the thoughts she'd rather not be having could be distracting) but to be fair it added something a bit different to what would otherwise have been a semi generic YA ...
Initial thoughts: This book pleasantly surprised me. I had no idea what to expect. Even though I had never read the synopsis and avoided reading all forms of reviews, Shatter Me was right up there on my TBR pile for quite some time. The prose was unexpected. It's different to say the least. I think ...
Juliette’s touch can kill and she accidentally murdered a small kid. She has been locked up in an asylum and hasn’t seen or touched another person for quite a long time until Adam, a guy she knew, steps inside her cell. The main character, Juliette, has a “special power” but I feel like it’s usele...
Tahereh Mafi is a writer to be appreciated. Her style of writing is totally unorthodox with run-on sentences, cross outs, numerous repetitions and lack of punctuation. Mafi reminds me of the poet e.e. cummings. Cummings didn't use capitals in his poetry. It was a different approach to writing that h...
I ended up really enjoying Shatter Me, I kept going back and forth for a while but the second half was much better than the first. Mainly because there's less of the crossed out sentences, which proved to be incredibly annoying. The writing does need improvement - too many odd metaphors that didn't ...
DNF at page 66, because I have better books to read. I just can't continue. My main problem is with the writing. It's saturated with similes and metaphors that make little sense. And I don't like it. This is purple prose at its finest. Also, Juliette is kind of bland.
