Shelter is the first book in the Mickey Bolitar series by Harlan Coben. Mickey was first introduced in Live Wire, the last book in the Myron Bolitar series. He's every bit as sarcastic, witty and smart as his uncle. The mature teen is also a basketball player, like his legendary uncle.Shelter is Har...

Sometime during my high school years, I gave up on Harlan Coben's novels, but when Shelter's Australian publisher sent me the author's first young adult book I decided to give it a go.Mickey Bolitar is easy to like, a guy who just wants to put down roots, make some friends, and come to terms with hi...

Mickey Bolitar's dad is dead. His mother is in rehab, and Mickey's brand-new girlfriend--the one he met at orientation for his brand new high school in the brand new city he now lives in with his Uncle Myron--is missing. First off, let me say that I love Harlan Coben and his Myron Bolitar books. However, this new "Mickey Bolitar" book....not so much. The story was a bit too "out there" for me. The real identity for the Bat Lady was far-fetched and I'm wondering how much this will draw teens in.

I'm a big fan of Harlan Coben's past novels. His books have so much action and suspense they are hard to put down. He is so good at throwing a curve ball in the story too and I always wonder when it's coming. This is his debut into young adult fiction and I was excited to read it. I have to say that...

3.5 for a YA thriller. It had its good points being the story had a lot of drama and mystery elements but it just lacked any depth to those elements. I thought the uncle was portrayed as someone who didn't know ANYTHING about teenagers and I realize that he was supposed to give Mickey some space but...
