I loved this story almost as much as Jane Eyre..a fascinating story about a woman just as strong as Jane trying to figure her way out in life. I have recommended it several times.
Not bad. Not bad. In comparison to her other novels, I didn't love it as much as Villette, of course, but it was much better than The Professor. We see most of the book through the eyes of two young women: Caroline Helstone, the shy niece of a Rector, who feels stifled by her life, and Shirley Keelde...
An interesting story with primary source insight into the Industrial Revolution. But the long, fervourous, religious tracks make it quite hard going.
