although i don't see eye to eye with freud on certain opinions, i think his writing style is clear and masterful and, thus, his theories are easily understood by ordinary people, like myself.

Skip the opening chapter on dream research and enjoy one of the most important and amazing books ever. This book messed me up. After I read it I realized how much being awake was like dreaming, and that in a sense I was walking around in a dream constructed by my unconscious.

Probably more enjoyable for someone who is more familiar with freud's body of work than I am. Nonetheless, nothing objectionable about the writings of a conscientious man who appreciates Goethe and heine.

Not exactly what I expected. Like Freud already mentioned at the end of the book, he kept his private life for himself because he thought it was not relevant (at least for this book). Though Freud rejected nearly every premise in the long theoretical portion at the end -- during his long life -- this (including the concluding passage) is a work of genius, and fundamental to understanding Freud.
