The "psychic twins" angle is a great hook into Curtis Sittenfeld's fourth novel, Sisterland--but it's a hook that might lead readers to expect something very different from what the novel turns out to be. The central plot thread--one of the psychic twins has predicted an earthquake for their hometow...

This is another one of those books where the story was genuinely compelling, but I did not love the main character. At times, I almost felt that Sittenfeld was mocking her own creation, Kate Tucker. I think the part that got me the most was the ritual she needed each night before she could go to bed...

Though Sisterland is about two adult twin sisters, identical yet very different, who believe they have psychic powers and maybe do, it’s not paranormal novel and, far from being set in some alternate world, it depicts day to day struggles with family and relationships. Unlike her other books, I never cared enough about the characters, too caricatured. Basically i felt it was a rather pedestrian domestic drama that just about managed to hold my attention until the end.

Sisterland is a fascinating story about love, science, and the paranomal. Twins Daisy and Violet have drastically different comfort levels with their psychic abilities. Vi embraced her gifts and gained minor notoriety as a psychic. Daisy chose a more pedestrian path. Now known as Kate -- her middle ...

Twins, Kate (Daisy) and Violet, are psychic. One of them becomes a wife and mother and denies her ability. The other embraces it and actually earns a living by using her “senses” as a medium. When Violet, and later, Kate become convinced that a tragic earthquake will strike the city of St. Louis, a ...
