I thought I would have loved this story because I absolutely love fairy tales and the ilk, but I simply could bring myself to give it more than one star. The characters were far too weak. I learn nothing about Tristan and the Star besides cursory information. They stumble from one action to the next ...

So different from the movie! I don’t think it’s a matter of better or worse, though the movie is certainly more exciting. But the characterization is different, the presentation of the backstory is different, the plot is different. All in all, I thought that it needed a bit more time spent on some o...

It has all the elements of a good book, I guess. But it's only average.

Catching up on some reviews...I have wanted to read this since seeing the movie, and it is one of the few Gaiman books I hadn't read. Interesting that I thought the movie made more of a spectacle from the story, but lost a little of the simplicity of the book. The story is rather simple, but fun, and...

I love the movie and now love the book as well. Although the stories differ, I appreciate both tales.

Yet another beautiful fantasy story by Neil Gaiman. Loaded with various fairytale tropes (intentionally) and wittiness, it's definitely enjoyable to read, though more or less just as wish fulfillment. Also at least to me the ending is better than the movie.
