If you want to keep up with the Joneses in the scifi reading community you will have to read this short story collection. Considering he has published less than 50 stories and not a single novel Ted Chiang is one of today's best known sf authors among sf readers, this does not make him a household n...

A nice combination of original & compelling "what if" ideas, clear exposition of some basic math & physics & history stuff it mentioned, competent characterization & overall good writing. It's probably among the best contemporary science fiction anthologies I've ever read.

Ted Chiang is, quite simply put, the best science fiction short story writer of our generation and one of the all time greats. Go get this, read it and then read it again. Every story here is superbly done. Chiang is a master.

I have a new book for my favorites shelf!I can't express enough how dang THOUGHT-PROVOKING these stories are. Every one of them. This was definitely a book to savor. When I finished each story, I wanted to put the book down and just think about what I had just read. There is just a depth of intelli...
