Introduction to Graphic Organizers for Students With Learning Disabilites
It has been proven by several recent studies that there are many types of graphic organizers (GO) or (GOs), which have proven to be helpful to students with learning disabilities (LD). A person with a learning disability are average or above-average, yet they have difficulty in several skills that effect their being able to perform in the classroom. Learning Disabilities (LD) are lifelong.
Graphic Organizers (GOs) as used by Kim et al. (2004), DiCecci et al (2002), and Smith (1994) show that significant enhancement of relational knowledge can be derived from expository text in all middle and high schools. Equally significant is the way in which various GOs can be used as an exercise for pre-reading or as a means of enhancing reading comprehension for enhanced expository writing and drawing relational inferences.
In short, test results show that the three mentioned Educational Interventions of Computer assisted instruction, repeating reading and the use of graphic organizers is a beneficial intervention for students with LD.
