Eve and Roarke 3.5 starsThis one was going along well until the end. The end almost gave it 3 stars for me. It was so predictable. And I know Eve has trouble with kids, but good grief some of the scenes with her and Nixie were just too much. Even and idiot knows not to say some things to a nine ...
Just finished a re-read of all the In Deaths (to date), and this is my favorite. It's the hardest to read, I think, but that's because it's true and horrible and just raw. The scenes with Peabody & Eve, every move that Nixie makes, the sides of Summerset that you get to see: favorite.
Another great book in In Death series. Not the best one, I'm afraid. Nixie, the only survivor of a multiple homicide wasn't the character I was expecting. I didn't really create a bond with her. She only got in the way. If she was suspicious of strangers how come only hours later, she would get up a...
I actually cried big fat tears in one scene. No matter how much softer Eve has gotten, she sticks out like a sore thumb in her inability to be soft with Nixie. She shows her compassion in different ways, and we kmow, as does Nixie, that she is deeply touched and affected. I think Roarke was able to ...
3.5 starsI thought Survivor in Death was just OK. There were moments when I laughed out loud and got misty-eyed, but I felt somewhat dissatisfied with the story as a whole. Eve seemed very cold to me. I understand due to her childhood, she'd have a hard time dealing with a kid victim. At times thoug...
This is the 20th book in the In Death series. It is late Autumn/Early winter in the year 2059. Nine year old Nixie Swisher awakens in the middle of the night to get an orange fizzy. Form her hiding place in the kitchen, Nixie witnesses intruders in her home who methodically and quickly murder her e...
This was a really sad one with Nixie being the sole survivor to her family's murder. This is an emotional one as Eve had to work through more of her past and we get to see a more human side of Somerset. I'm mixed on Somerset. I understand why he loves Roarke and why Roarke keeps him. I just don'...
Moved to 5 stars on reread. Hell, had a very hard time blinking back tears in the Starbucks drive-through line ... and other visceral responses. I guess it's a good thing that I just can't believe the motive...guess I'm sane. :-)
