A good detective story involving a police officer fresh from the trauma of losing a partner on the job, and Maggie, his newly assigned German shepherd. Maggie caries her own vestiges of PTSD, having lost her former marine handler to a sniper in Afghanistan. The story switches between points of view ...

3.5 stars-It all started with Afghanistan, an explosion and a lost soul.Maggie was just trying to protect her pack Alpha when it happened. She was damaged, he was weakened but still she had to protect him. The other humans tried to come near him but she stood guard. She would never be the same after...

This is the first novel by Robert Crais that I have ever read, but I have to say I was mightily impressed with his writing in Suspect. There was something that this book had from the prologue, and it never lost that special something for 300 pages. That special something, or someone, would be the 85...

"A "must hear" for dog lovers"Maggie, the ex-marine police dog, transforms "Suspect" from a good police drama into a memorable book.Anyone who knows dogs will recognize the accuracy of Robert Crais' description of their behavior and the bond that they build. The passages written from Maggie's point o...

I picked this up for Mystery book club not quite knowing what to expect. I thought I was in for a mystery/thriller similar to Child's Reacher novels. However, this was so much more. I found the story between Scott and his new K9, Maggie, endearing and compelling. I hope this turns into a series.

Well, I did start this book about six weeks or more ago but only got through the first chapter when a library book called or something. New books have only two weeks, so I had to get those behind me. That's my lame excuse for starting this one, then putting it down. That and then just forgetting....

A man and his dog. It's a beautiful thing. Maggie the German shepherd kicked this up into the five-star zone for me. Crais made her so real that I wanted to zip down to L.A. and stage a dognapping. Of a fictional dog...Scott James is a Los Angeles cop with PTSD. Maggie has PTSD too, following an eve...

Fun, touching, mix of K9 cop procedural and whodunit, with what seemed to me like a very believable cross between 'dog's perspective' and 'dog handlers perspective'. That said, it was not totally believable, the steps taken by the human protagonist seemed surprisingly far beyond evidence handling p...

When I was a girl, The Call of the Wild was one of my favorite books. There's a scene where Buck gives his all for his human and that was one of the scenes I flashed to when reading Suspect. This may be the best dog book I've read since The Call of the Wild.Crais, best known for his Evis Cole/Joe Pi...

Crais is one of the best writing in this genre today. He's only ever disappointed me once and even that was forgivable. His Elvis Cole books are right at the top of my list and I could see the star duo in this book becoming part of a series, too. Maggie is one of the best characters I've come acr...
