Green Eggs and Ham
Green Eggs and Ham - Dr. Seuss

Green Eggs and Ham is another classic book that most children are familiar with by elementary school age.  This book could easily be used when discussing likes and dislikes and how you change over time.  I would use this book in my class for 1st and 2nd graders.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom - Bill Martin Jr.,John Archambault,Lois Ehlert

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a classic book for repetition and rhyming.  Students will feel more confidant with rhyming after reading this book.  Every student who has read this book can sing along with the story in the second reading.  I think this book is good for K-2nd grade.

The Cat In The Hat
The Cat in the Hat - Dr. Seuss

The Cat In The Hat is a classic book for elementary school students.  I think that this book would be excellent in lower grades that are learning rhyming and repetition such as kindergarten or 1st grade.  When connecting words that sound alike, children can use this book as a resource.

Free Food isn't always the best food
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs - Judi Barrett,Ron Barrett

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is one of my favorite books to this day. I love all of the illustrations and the cute text that goes along with it. I would use this book in my 2nd grade class and introduce making predictions. I would ask the students, based on the illustrations and title what they thought the book was about. At the end, we would infer whether our predictions were correct and "why" or "why not" food falling from the sky would be a good thing. There are so many cute activities and a movie that could follow the lesson!

If You Give...
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie - Laura Joffe Numeroff,Felicia Bond
If You Give a Pig a Party - Laura Joffe Numeroff,Felicia Bond

These are GREAT books for introducing cause and effect. I would teach these books to second grade and have an anchor chart with the students predictions vs. what the book states. I would then pass out a sequence of events pictures and have the students put them in the correct order. These were always some of my favorite books growing up and really helped me understand cause and effect.
