Infidel by Kameron Hurley
Infidel - Kameron Hurley

Series: Bel Dame Apocrypha #2

How to explain Infidel? We find Nyx, the former bel Dame, sort of bounty hunter, sometimes on security detail, even more down on her luck, with a smaller, even crappier team and driven to go against more rogues from the bel Dame council. The bel Dames are the government-sanctioned bounty hunters who hunt down runaways from the Front. A couple of countries have spent several centuries at war and still haven't gotten to the point where they're just throwing rocks at each other. It's a kind of dark, twisted, shoot 'em adventure romp, and Nyx still hasn't learned how to shoot.

I'd call it fun if it weren't so dark, so I'm not sure what to call it. If this sounds like any of the Festive Squares, please let me know.

Reading progress update: I've read 56%.
On Davis Row - NR Walker

I wasn’t lying when I said it was about time the world saw the real CJ Davis. He was a good man. A good-hearted man who’d been dealt a really shitty life. The way he’d clung to me when I’d hugged him hurt my heart, like he was starved for affection. I wanted to hold him and never let him go.

On Davis Row - NR Walker

“You get through life trying to be invisible. You think no one’ll notice you don’ read or write too well if you just hide in th’ background. Disappear. You think if they don’ notice you, they won’t ever know. Well guess what?” He slid his hand up to my neck and ran his thumb over my jaw. I couldn’t breathe. “I see you, Clinton Davis. I see you.”

The Virtues of Christmas
The Virtues of Christmas - Grace Burrowes

Nice group of holiday novellas. Both were nice, sweet stories with unconventional heroines.
Respect for Christmas:
I liked that the heroine was a courtesan. I liked the interaction between Michael and Henrietta.

Patience for Christmas
Patience is an advice columnist(!). I enjoyed the banter between Dougal and Patience. Also introduces the Windham sisters (the Windham Bride series).

The Snowflake Inn
The Snowflake Inn - Samantha Chase
Riley was discharged from the military and comes home to try and get his mother to sell her inn. Grace is living and working at the inn. Having met each other in rehab, Grace and Corrine became friends. (Not that rehab, both were getting PT- Grace for a broken leg, Corrine for a hip replacement).
I would have liked this better if I had liked Riley more. He annoyed me. What kind of person gets injured and doesn't tell their family? (So not to worry her). Then, because of the injury, gets discharged from the military. Doesn't share/say anything. Just shows up. After spending a few days in town first. That just annoyed me.
