My mother hounded me forever to read Caddie Woodlawn and I wouldn't listen. Finally, I started it and couldn't put it down. Mom never forgets to remind me that she was right about this book...and I can't say a thing. She was completely right.

One of the things LL and I did while in college together was read this hilarious website called Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About. We laughed for days. I bought him this book as a gift...though I think I'm the only one whose yet to read the thing. While funny, I find the website funnier. Still a great book and one that always brings back how much fun we had.

I think we need to read this again..."The sink is blue, and we're not talking about it."

They were all bought by my mum to encourage my sister to read more books. And it wasn’t working.

These were all excellent books, but little sis just wasn’t interested. It wasn’t that she couldn’t read, it was just that she didn’t seem to want to. Then a teacher friend of my mum’s gently suggested that maybe sis was feeling a bit intimidated, and she should try something that was slightly under her reading age. (Mum was used to my rather precocious reading habits and had assumed that my sister would be the same.)

The book recommended by this wise woman was Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. My sister picked it up and read it, and the rest is history. She read it again and again. And kept on reading it. And it wasn't long before she had gained the confidence to move on to other books. Books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in fact.

Thank you Stanley! Although it did mean I had to return all those books to her shelf because she wanted to read them. Oh, and my dad had to move the cork board above her bed to the other side of the room.

There have been several great books mentioned and I know a few have made it onto my list. However, several books have also made it on through a couple other books I've read and I honestly can't remember which ones come from where. So in order to get this day's book out on schedule, I'm choosing one that I'd heard of before but posts during the month have convinced me to try it.

A Discovery of Witches sounds incredibly interesting...I've just got to wait for my turn to come up at the library!

THE BOOK YOU READ, OR PLAN TO BECAUSE OF #BOOKADAYUK

I've really enjoyed the Book a Day challenge because it's given me plenty of insights into the reading habits and personalities of the lovely people here on Booklikes. I've loved the diversity of the books chosen, but also got a huge kick if someone picked the same book as me. 

And one of the best things about the challenge was that I've now got plenty of books on my TBR pile and wish-list.

There were so many books I could have chosen because people were coming up with some fantastic books (old and new, classic and pulp) but the book I finally decided on for today is Time Shifters by Shanna Lauffey. This was mentioned a couple of times by Lora's Rants and Reviews and as I'm a sucker for time travel books, I've downloaded it onto my Kindle. I'm not sure when I'm going to get a chance to read it thanks to the door-stopper known as The Way of Kings, but I'm looking forward to it.
