Isn't it weird, to remember almost nothing, of something you know you knew? I'd like to shake off this feeling, it isn't cool.

I must have read these stories many years ago, and all I remember is Azazel, the two-centimeter red demon. That image is imprinted in my brain, and nothing else.

If I think about the robot stories, I remember many plot pieces, their impact, some of their characters, their imaginative and provoking or their unrealistic "what if". On Azazel stories, however, I remember exactly nothing of the kind.

Other reviews say these stories share the common theme of the jinn granting wishes, which turn out differently than the grantee expected. Might as well be; and might as well be a reason why I remember nothing. It gets dull after a while, to keep warping at a theme with obvious limits.

so this is about aazael, a two centimeter demon that has powers to do extraordinary things and george who calls him for fulfilling not his desires( cause azazel won't do it for him) but his friends or relatives. Azazel does exactly what george tells him but the consequence of that...well that is something you will figure out when you read it.
won't rate it among the best of asimov's but definately a good collection of short stories to read !

I normally don't have spoilers in my reviews, but this time, I'm going to have to make an exception. I only got part-way through this book, before I had to put it down, and go take a shower. Once I reached the vivid and graphic description of the main group of people being Satanists, preparing to rape the main character in a Satanic cult ritual on Halloween, I stopped in disgust. Not my kind of book!

I really would have liked some warning that this book had that sort of thing in it, and I never would have picked it up. The description/synopsis should mention something about cults, Satanists, witch-craft, demons, something! Parents need to be aware of that in this series, because it's listed as YA.

The story itself wasn't even that good- the main character is an idiot. She's a vapid, immature girl who was written to blindly miss completely, painfully obvious events and circumstances, in order to propel the story forward. I can not think that any one in real life would be that stupid...

Overall, this book was horrible, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone...

“Azazel” to pierwsza powieść Borysa Akunina opowiadająca o młodym detektywie Eraście Fandorinie, pracującym w carskiej policji, który następnie stał się bohaterem całej serii książek. Mi jednak ta jedna wystarczy, niestety nie sięgnę po kolejne, bowiem mimo wielu zalet, jakie “Azazel” posiada, brakuje mu tego czegoś, czego ja w kryminałach szukam.

Zaletą niewątpliwie jest pieczołowitość, z jaką autor przedstawia nam carską Rosję w roku 1876, wraz ze wszystkimi jej zaletami i wadami. Książka stylem nawiązuje do Wielkich Rosyjskich Klasyków, gdzie narrator trzecioosobowy przedstawia kolejne wydarzenia w bardzo klasyczny właśnie sposób, dorzucając od siebie co nieco wyjaśnień i własnych refleksji, poświęcając napotkanym tu postaciom po równo miejsca, starając się - zresztą z powodzeniem - osiągnąć klimat powieści pisanych w czasach, gdy dzieje się akcja.

Niestety jednak sama sprawa kryminalna, zagadka, jest także utrzymana w tym tonie. Stale czuć jakby lekką ironię, a rozbudowany styl wypowiedzi, pełen dygresji i nadmuchiwanych dialogów, choć świetnie sprawdza się w prezentacji Rosji z siedemdziesiątych lat XIX wieku, zupełnie mi nie pasował do detektywistycznej zagadki. Kolejny raz utwierdziłem się w przekonaniu, że niestety sam kryminał to dla mnie za mało, by dobrze się bawić, szukam jeszcze poważnego dramatu, a styl Akunina jak dla mnie powagi przedstawionym sytuacjom odbiera.

Książka wcale nie jest zła i nie muszę się wcale wysilać, by zrozumieć dlaczego Borys Akunin jest tak lubiany zarówno w Rosji, jak i za granicą. Już prędzej ja jestem złym czytelnikiem dla tego typu literatury, więc Autorowi serdecznie dziękuję i serdecznie książkę polecam fanom Poirota i Holmesa.
