Becoming Alpha (Alpha Girl #1) by Aileen Erin
Becoming Alpha: 1 (Alpha Girl) - Aileen Erin

I loved Aileen Erin’s Becoming Alpha, the first book in the Alpha Girl Series.  Tessa McCaide has visions triggered by the things she touches.  It gave her the reputation of being a freak.  Her family moves to Texas where she meets werewolf, Dastien Laurent, and is turned.  The next thing she knows she is attending St. Ailbe’s Academy, school for werewolves.  Becoming Alpha is a contemporary PNR suitable for young adults.

Aileen Erin does a great job with her character development.  I like Tessa.  She has always had to deal with being different.  She is a strong heroine.  She and Dastien have great chemistry.  The plot was interesting and full of mystery and twists.  The story was unique and exciting.  I enjoyed Aileen Erin’s writing style.  This is one series I will definitely continue to read.

"I'm not quite sure how it happen. I don't remember even moving. One second I stood next to Chris. The next, Meredith was flat on her back and I had her pinned to the ground. A bright red splotch spread across her left cheek."
Becoming Alpha - Aileen Erin

Really good book! It was so engrossing that I couldn't put it down. Tessa is a wonderful character. She strong willed and full of life. When her life takes an unexpected turn, she learns that her new path is not only rocky but totally worth the a kiss.

Becoming Alpha by Aileen Erin
Becoming Alpha - Aileen Erin

Becoming Alpha begins when Tessa and her family move to Texas after her dad accepts a new job there. They actually have a few secrets they have been keeping from Tessa, but she soon starts to learn things she never knew when a kiss from a boy who she can't get out of her head changes her life for ever. Now she's forced to go to a "werewolf" school and figure out what the heck happened to her, and is to continue to happen.
But there are a whole lot of problems she never thought she would encounter a long the way.

This book wasn't all that great, but not bad either. I liked the plot line of the story. And I loved the interaction between the heroine and hero, but other than that I just felt bored at times with it. And frustrated. There were several things that frustrated me about the book, and I felt like it didn't really end on a good conclusion. So I'm not sure I will be reading the next one, but I still enjoyed this one for the most part because it had a unique story.

One stupidly Hilariuos book
Becoming Alpha - Aileen Erin

For this review and more visit my blog The Accidental Reader

This book came out more than 3 months ago. And only now do I write my review as I had trouble writing it before.

When thinking of this book I cannot avoid the feeling of Twilight. Once again we have an insta-love that is quite not…well…clear?

I really couldn't comprehend what Tessa found in Dastien or what he found in her for that matter.

Also, Tessa is this annoying character. I mean, her parents love her, her older brother adores her, she has this rare gift that could be really useful, and it seems like her destiny holds greatness.

Guess what she does folks?

Yep, she cries, she complains and she shows no signs for greatness (though once in awhile she shows signs of something that might one day after lots and lots of training become quite…good?)

Here comes the important question: why did I give it a 3 stars rating? WHY?! This book in many ways is just like any other books in the genre that is out there and we've been through before. Like Twilight.

Truth be told, I'm still trying to figure it out myself. You see, unlike Twilight I actually had fun reading this book.

Bella Swan was so dull, so boring and so very stupid. Her story was boring, her guy was way too much 'perfect' I wanted to kick his ass to the medieval times.

But Tessa? Maybe someone hit me on the head, I don’t know. But while Tessa is an annoying character, she is also really fun to laugh at.

She'll go and say how she's not stupid then will go and do something totally stupid, and before I realized what was happening my whole interaction with her became one when she did or said something and I commented on it in the most sarcastic way possible and I had fun.

Furthermore, Tessa's world has potential. Yes, I admit that more often than not it was a soap-opera (reminding me of the days me granny forced me to sit with her and watch "the Bold and the Beautiful", augh) but it had potential.

I want to see how the witches' folklore here will evolve; I liked the fact that vampires were ugly and quite stupid. I liked the talk about the weres and their abilities and I'd like more explanation on that part.

Also, while some of the side characters weren't that needed. Some of them, like Mer, were totally awesome.

I'm a complete Meredith fan! I really like the girl and I really want to see what will happen to her next, who will she mate with (please let it be that totally swoony guy!) will her problem be solved?

The next book is going to be about her problem and I really want to read it. Furthermore, I'd like to see Tessa grow into herself. While she was quite annoying at first, little by little she grew balls. And she has potential to become total kick-ass!

So, while this book is non favorite of mine, it still has some good side to it. And I'd take it to Twilight any day.

Book Review: Becoming Alpha by Aileen Erin
Becoming Alpha - Aileen Erin
Series: Alpha Girl #1
Publisher: Ink Monster
Publication Date: 17 December 2013
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Source: Publisher (In exchange for an honest Review)

Goodreads Synopsis:
Tessa McCaide has a unique talent for getting into trouble. Then again, it isn’t easy for a girl with visions to ignore what she sees. Luckily Tessa and her family are leaving California and moving halfway across the country, giving her the perfect opportunity to leave her reputation as “Freaky Tessa” behind.

But Tessa doesn’t realize that kissing the wrong guy in her new Texas town could land her in far more trouble than she ever imagined. Like being forced to attend St. Ailbe’s Academy, a secret boarding school for werewolves.

Even if the wrong guy did accidentally turn her into one of “them” and doom her to attending the weirdest high school ever, Tessa can’t help her growing attraction to the mysterious Dastien Laurent.

When vampires attack St. Alibe’s and her visions pinpoint an enemy in their midst, Tessa realizes that boy drama and her newfound canine tendencies might just be the least of her problems.

Review:
This was an amazing book. I was completely hooked from page 1 - I loved this book! For me this was one of those books where I couldn't read fast enough to see what happens next.

Characters: 5/5
Aileen creates well developed and lovable characters. I connected easily with all of the characters and grew attached to all them quickly.

Tessa - I loved that Tessa doesn't fight her crush for Dastien at first. She is awesome and different. I adored her sibling bond with Axel and loved her friendship with Meredith. Tessa was easy to connect with. I cannot wait to find out more about her witch side and see how her relationship with Dastien will grow in the rest of the series. Tessa is definitely my favourite character in this book.

Axel - Axel is Tessa's awesome older brother. He is caring, naughty, and looks after Tessa exactly like an older brother should. He is one of my favourite characters.

Dastien - Dastien mysterious at first and completely swoon-worthy. He is witty, smart and possibly the most awesome boyfriend to have in this book. Dastien can be a bit dense at times when it comes to Tessa - In a way its sweet that he cares so much and keeps messing up and on the other hand you just want to shake some sense into him. I absolutely adore Dastien!!

Meredith - Meredith is such a great friend. She is easy to connect with (From Tessa and reader POV), understanding and accepting. After all Tessa has been through, she is so lucky to have a found a great friend like Meredith.

Shannon and Imogene - Imogene is such a weird name. Both of these characters annoyed me a lot.

Writing style, plot, pace: 5/5
Aileen has a writing style that draws you in immediately. I quickly became addicted to this book. The pacing is perfect and the plot was interesting. Becoming Alpha definitely drew me in hook, line and sinker. Aileen does some great world building which is simple and easy to navigate.

Cover: 4/5 - I actually really liked this cover. The more I look at it, the more I love it and after reading the story, you can see how perfect it is.

My Rating:

Final Thoughts: I will definitely be reading the rest of this series and maybe even buying a paperback to add to my bookshelf.

Favourite Quotes

My only defense for being so dense was that it was before eight AM. Anything before ten AM and I'm lucky if I can speak my native language coherently.
~
Ice cream, I needed lots of ice cream. even if it was my breakfast. It had milk and maybe eggs. That totally counted.
~
"No time to stop and chat. things to do. Places to escape from." I took off running.
~
He had an amazing voice. I shoved him. "Okay. I got it. When it comes to music, we're totally weirdo twinkies."
