Once more
How to Blow It with a Billionaire - Alexis Hall

This is book #2, in the Arden St Ives series.  This book can be read as a standalone novel.  For reader understanding, and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this series in order.

Arden's story continues with his on and off again relationship trial with Caspian.  He puts himself out there in the hopes that he can help heal the coldest of hearts.  While it seems a good patch for a time, there is always the human factor.

Caspian does not want to be fixed, nor does he want to come across weak.  His view of Arden trying to keep him close is skewed by those who have claimed to love him before.  This would take all day and a slew of psychoanalysis to try and explain.  For now, we must accept he is not ready to move on.

This story was so good and had the upswing going for it.  There was heat, passion, love, and so much more.  I was very pleased to finally see character development in many of the characters involved.  I cannot wait to read the next installment and hope the author hurries and has pity on me.  I give this title a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

not for me
How to Blow It with a Billionaire - Alexis Hall

This is about Aiden and the man he cares about - Caspian. Caspian does open up and show he does care about Aiden. Aiden is sweet and innocent in a lot of ways. Aiden flew out to the U K as his friend Nik had been in an accident. Caspian is starting to accept he and Arden are fated to be together. Then  they went to   Ellery’s birthday party and the man who had made his move on Caspian was there. He had also played with Caspian’s mind for a long time . Caspian blames himself.

I could not get into this book so I didn’t finish this . I just didn’t connect with the characters or the plot and the story didn't catch or keep my interest.

Blow Down (The Plumber's Mate #4)
Blow Down - J.L. Merrow

More fun and snark from our psychic plumber.

Tom's little secret - the ability to locate hidden objects (which occasionally includes dead bodies) and leaky pipes - is not so secret anymore now that someone let the cat out of the metaphorical bag. Tom's propensity to martyrdom allows him to be guilt-tripped into displaying his talents to the public - with the expected disastrous results.

Really, y'all, this is why you don't ask the guy who can find dead bodies to perform "magic" tricks. I mean, that should just go without saying.

(spoiler show)

I did feel the whodunit was a bit more obvious this time around and wondered why Tom and Phil didn't cotton onto them sooner. That aside though, the mystery was full of wackadoodles and cagey relatives aplenty, enough to be fun while still making you wish Tom would start wearing a helmet everywhere he goes. :P And it does seem Tom's abilities are taking on possible new skills - not that he's anymore open to testing them out than he was before.

I like the way Tom and Phil's relationship is progressing. There's still plenty of ways for them to miscommunicate without going the whole Big Misunderstanding route, and they trust each other enough that they don't blow everything (well, most things) out of proportion.

That's not the only relationship Tom has to foster here either, now that he's found his "real" dad. I like that their reunion and getting to know each other was realistically awkward and that they're taking their time getting a feel for each other. I still need to know a lot more about Mike, so hopefully we'll see that in the next book, which I'm pleased to see Ms. Merrow has planned for next year. Fingers crossed there are no delays it getting it to us.

Fire Shut Up in My Bones
Fire Shut Up in My Bones - Charles Blow https://msarki.tumblr.com/post/160400369043/fire-shut-up-in-my-bones-by-charles-m-blow

My disappointment in this book is unrivaled in light of the level of anticipation I had for reading this memoir. During the 2016 political campaign and the emergence of Donald J. Trump as a force to be reckoned with, Charles M. Blow took voice with the opposition and became a champion to me for his attacks on this awful man and now his presidency. Blow’s writing for the NY Times is always powerful and poignant. His appearances as a commentator on television prove to be remarkable events in themselves. But sad to say this book is a different story.

One admiring reviewer describes his awe in the author's command and use of the English language. Not so. But should have been. Too sweet and flowery for my tastes. Didn’t feel honest. And a not-so-admiring reviewer states he may have fire in his bones, but certainly not in his writing. It's tedious and boring and he takes what would be a gripping read of his difficult young life and turned it into a carefully worded, deliberately constructed poetic recitation. I get absolutely no sense of any "fire" whatsoever. I wish it were not so, but I must concur. And I know why this book fails on par with his articles. It feels as if a different man is speaking on the page. Not the Charles M. Blow I was attracted to. Sort of takes the starch out of his stance.
