Review of "Shadow's Bane" (Dorina Basarab #4) by Karen Chance

Wow, a lot got revealed in this one. I loved it; possibly favorite in the series with the romance angst gone, lots of action and reveals without all the weird time travel stuff. The flashbacks even worked.

Dory and Dorina are more distinct beings than ever. With all the reveals, maybe this is the final book of the series? I hope not because there is clearly still more to the story despite the resolutions and reveals.

Ratings scale used in absence of a booklikes suggested rating scale:

★★★★★ = All Time Favorite
★★★★½ = Extraordinary Book. Really Loved It.
★★★★☆ = Loved It.
★★★½☆ = Really Liked.
★★★☆☆ = Liked.
★★½☆☆ = Liked parts; parts only okay. Would read more by author.
★★☆☆☆ = Average.   Okay.
★½☆☆☆ = Disliked or meh? but kept reading in hopes would improve.
★☆☆☆☆ = Loathed It. Possibly DNF and a torturous read.
½☆☆☆☆ = So vile was a DNF or should have been. Cannot imagine anyone liking.  (Might also be just an "uploaded" word spew or collection that should not be dignified by calling itself a "published book." If author is going batshit crazy in the blogosphere over reviews -- I now know why they are getting bad reviews.  Or maybe author should take remedial classes for language written in until basic concepts like using sentences sink in. Is author even old enough to sign a publishing contract or do they need a legal guardian to sign for them?)

"“Then what is it about?” Marlowe staggered back to his feet, and Louis-Cesare hit him again.

“I don’t like his face.”

“Oh, that’s mature.”"

"The night was muggy, I was sweating and miserable, and nobody even bothered to try to hijack me so I could take out some aggression."

"She didn’t agree with Claire, but she wasn’t going to argue with a frantic mother who was low on sleep.

That never got anybody anywhere."

"I wasn’t usually the screaming type; I’d trained myself out of it years ago, because it doesn’t up your chances of survival if you broadcast to the enemy both the fact that you’re wounded and exactly where you are."
