The Book With No Pictures
The Book with No Pictures - B.J. Novak

The Book With No Pictures is a fun, expressive story (with no pictures, of course). The point of this book is the tone in which it is read. B.J. Novak, the author, reads this story to young children with such enthusiasm and they are completely in awe and entertained.

I would read this story with kindergartners, first or second graders. It would be really awesome to have Novak read it to the whole school, but assuming this would not be easy to do, I would read this story to my class; then, during stations, in the reading center, I would have this book out for students to practice fluency and enthusiasm by reading this story to each other. I would even use this book as a reward for my students to go and read to another class.

FLYING HIGH - THE ISLAND OF ENTHUSIASM (English Edition) Educational Children's Book Collection (HUGO THE HAPPY STARFISH - ISLAND ADVENTURES 1) - Suzy Liebermann

Children will enjoy the lovely and bright pictures. And of course this book (as well as Hugo's other adventures) is a useful tool to prompt good discussions with your young children. It helps them to understand that while being enthusiastic or excited is good, it can be overdone and needs to be balanced.

This novel was given to me in exchange for an honest review. Please visit me at http://www.theproductschool.org to view more.

Enthusiasm - Polly Shulman I went from "This is so stupid" to stupidly grinning. Full review to come.

Enthusiasm - Polly Shulman Cute read and the characters are adorable, even if the cover is a little ugly (in my opinion). It all felt true to high school, with the crushes, misunderstandings and awkward advances. You gotta love the main guy - poetry, flowers, jewelry - I mean, he knows how to win a girl.

Enthusiasm - Polly Shulman Basically an ode to Jane Austen (especially P&P) so enough reason for me to have liked it. However, if you take all that away, the main character can feel a bit superficial and to be honest, I did not particularly like her (personally I think she tends to complain a lot). Ashleigh or Ned are actually much more interesting. Also, the story was very predictable. I kept on hoping that Julie would eventually end up with Ned (much more interesting than the handsome, talented, i-can-pretty-much-do-everything-dreamguy Parr), however after the first 25% of the book it was clear that it was not gonna happen. Also, usually I devour books like this within an evening, but somehow it still took me more than a week to finish the book. Overall a nice quick read, just don't expect fireworks, butterflies and rainbows, if you catch my drift;)
