ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward
All the President's Men - Carl Bernstein,Bob Woodward

Change the names from 1972 to today's names and nothing has changed. The talking points and the words are the same. Denials and coming down on the press from the White House. I am astounded how much things stay the same in 50 years. While the book at first is a little disconcerting because of all the names as well as feeling I was dropped into the middle of a conversation, I soon got comfortable as Bernstein and Woodward tell of putting the Watergate story and the subsequent fallout stories together to get a full story of what happened during the Nixon reelection campaign. This is much more interesting now than it was 50 years ago when all I cared about was my soap operas being exempted for the Watergate coverage. There are so many parallels to 2020 and beyond.

INVASION OF THE PARTY SNATCHERS: HOW THE HOLY ROLLERS AND THE NEW-CONS DESTROYED THE GOP by Victor Gold
Invasion of the Party Snatchers: How the Holy-Rollers and Neo-Cons Destroyed the GOP - Victor Gold

Explains how the religious right and extreme conservatives have taken over the Republican party.  He begins in the 1960's and brings it up to 2007.  It is interesting as he shows the maneuverings behind the scenes of how these groups gain a hold on the GOP and how they only care about their agenda and not society as a whole.  They don't care the damage that is done as long as they get their way.  He is very open in his opinions of the party leaders and party nominees (losers and winners) during this time.  I found it eye-opening at times but I was not surprised by his opinions.  I just did not realize how bad it was.  I did laugh over some of his observations.  This is as timely today as it was when written.  I wish he were still alive so we could hear his opinion of what has happened since 2007 to now.

DANGEROUS BOOKS FOR GIRLS: THE BAD REPUTATION OF ROMANCE NOVELS EXPLAINED by Maya Rodale
Dangerous Books For Girls: The Bad Reputation of Romance Novels, Explained - Maya Rodale

A look at the history of novels and publishing with an emphasis on the romance novel.  I found this informative as well as fun.  I liked the history of the published novel and how romance novels have changed over time as society changes.  Ms. Rodale documented her research and lays it out concisely.  Very enjoyable.

Dear Martin by Nic Stone
Dear Martin - Nic Stone
One of the most powerful reads I've read.
Maybe because it hits too close to home.
With all the injustice happening in the world, this story was a vivid reality of what life is like for African-Americans, told by an African-American. People need to hear the stories to bring about change. We all need to stop turning a blind eye to any injustices that constantly surround our lives. These horrible things don't just happen in the US. It happens here in Canada and more. You would think racial attacks were a thing of the past, but they're not.
This book may be labeled as fiction, but it couldn't have felt more real.
Read it. Let it affect you. Then change.

COYOTE AMERICA by Dan Flores
Coyote America: A Natural and Supernatural History - Dan Flores

Tells the story of the coyote in America through the Native tribes stories to its journey from west to east, south to north, across borders and how it has survived all attempts to eradicate it from the United States. The coyote is found in both rural and urban areas. They are adaptive like humans are. They have managed to learn and outsmart those coming after them.

I enjoyed the book. It took me a little while to get into it but then I got sucked in and learned a lot. I knew very little about coyotes but found their history and how the government and ranchers tried to destroy them fascinating. I chuckled over the Nixon administration's passage of laws protecting the environment hoping the youth vote would come his way. They turned out to be some of the strongest laws passed to protect the environment and no one read them until after passage then they had a lot to say. So much is in this book that reading was slower than usual but it is worth reading and savoring this history of a much maligned but necessary animal.
