I absolutely loved this book. I was hooked from the first page and with every paragraph it just got better and better.

Going into it, I didn't really know what to expect, but I am so glad I finally read this. It is a wonderful, spell-binding story filled with twists and turns. The characters are so unconventional and amazing. You can't help but loving them and all of their flaws (although, I wanted to strangle Howl at times- the mess, always the mess). 

This is one of those books that, once you get into it, you don't even care what happens at the end; you are just happy to be along for the ride. Such a great adventure. 

The ending, while I wouldn't say it was predictable, is written in a way where you kind of know where it is heading with all of those loose ends that need tying up.

It is similar to Harry Potter in that there are multiple stories that all weave together as the book goes on. 

Amazing. I love this book. I was so glad to find out that there are two more books in the series. I cannot wait to read them. Fantastic book!

I was first introduced to this tale in movie form, however, to my great pleasure I stumbled across it at the book store on April Fool's day. To say I had to pinch myself to make sure I was not being tricked is an understatement. I whisked it to the front desk to purchase immediately and could not put it down! In this book, things like witches, wizards, kings, spells, seven-league boots and fire demons were everyday normal things.  The Hatter sisters, Sophie, Lettie, and Martha knew the warnings and stories. So, when a big black castle showed up on the horizon that moved warnings were whispered about in the village but life remained the same that is until the Witch of the Waste paid Sophie Hatter a visit and cursed her! From that moment on Sophie had to set out to find someone to break the curse and return her to her normal 17 year old self. Her mission is not as easy as it seems though as she finds the Wizard Howl and gets tangled up in all sorts of trouble. 

This book would be another good book to do an in-depth class study on and breaking it down into chapters for character analysis, plot, theme, problem/solution studies and much more. I foresee the students being activity engaged in trying to figure out the poems and untwisting the plot.

This is a great fantasy book. This is the story of Sophie, a girl who is all set to live out her dull fate as the oldest daughter until she meets the wizard Howl. After that everything is turned upside down as she is turned into an old woman by the Wicked Witch of the Waste and becomes Howl's housekeeper. The story follows Sophie's adventures as she tries to figure out the mysteries around her. I would implement this book in the classroom as a way to teach about making predictions and using contextual evidence to hypothesize the answer to questions the students would write about the story as we were reading the book. This book is intended for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.  

Es ist mal wieder Valentinstag und wenn man der allgemeinen Mehrheit folgt, dann bedeutet das wohl, dass einen Tag lang weltweite Romantik ausbricht. Oder ausbrechen soll. Für manche wird der 14. Februar zum Spießrutenlauf mit unzähligen lauernden Fettnäpfchen. Menschen wie mir ist der Valentinstag eigentlich egal, aber er bietet eine gute Gelegenheit für eine Buchliste mit Titeln, die Romanzen jenseits des Schmalzes enthält und sich mehr auf den humorvollen Ton konzentriert. Paare die sich liebevollem Zank hingeben, statt melodramatischen Versprechungen. Ganz einfach ist es nicht solche Bücher aufzutun, trotzdem habe ich versucht meine Top 5 amüsanter und erwachsener Paare zu finden, die mehr Lacher als Augenroller zu bieten haben.

1. Degrees of Wrong – Anna Scarlett
Aus meiner Sicht eindeutig das witzigste Paar in der Sammlung. Zugegeben der Schwerpunkt liegt hier schon deutlich stärker bei der Liebelei der Protagonisten, aber das Gezanke von Elise und Nicoli ist so herrlich unterhaltsam, dass ich dieses Buch regelmäßig auspacken und erneut lesen muss. Außerdem ist es mit einer interessanten Prise Sci-Fi, der Jagd nach einem Impfstoff und einem Unterwasserschiff gewürzt.

2. Uprooted – Naomi Novik
Während Degrees of Wrong ein futuristisches und urbanes Setting hat bewegen wir uns in Uprooted durch eine mittelalterliche, märchenhafte Welt, die aber Erwachsene Leser zum Ziel hat. Auch hier geht die Dynamik zwischen Dragon und Agnieska mit Witz und viel verbalem Schlagabtausch einher. Die Liebesgeschichte der beiden entwickelt sich dezent nebenbei und vervollständigt eine der besten Haupthandlungen, die man sich als Fantasyleserin für einen Roman wünschen kann.

3. Soulless – Gail Carriger
Diese steampunkige Geschichte spielt in einer alternativen Realität des viktorianischen London. Es tummeln sich Vampire und Werwölfe offen in der Stadt. Auch in Soulless ist die Romantik ein nebensächlicher, aber regelmäßig auftauchender Teil der Handlung. Das Buch sorgt nicht nur mit einer selbstbewussten Protagonistin und einem grantigen Werwolf-Ermittler regelmäßig für ordentliche Lacher.

4. Ghost Planet – Sharon Lynn Fisher
Hier scheiden sich die Geister ein wenig, gewissermaßen sogar buchstäblich. Das Buch bietet ein unheimlich spannendes Konzept das mehr Gewicht hat als der romantische Part. Letzterer ist gelegentlich mit ein bisschen Fremdschämen verbunden, unter dem Strich aber auch nett gemacht.

5. Sophie im Schloss des Zauberers – Diana Wynne Jones
Das einzige Buch in meiner Sammlung das sich eigentlich an Kinder richtet und trotzdem zwei herrliche Protagonisten bietet, die auch der erwachsenen Leserin viel zu bieten haben. Sophie und Howl sind in vielerlei Hinsicht zwei Figuren die man wirklich kennenlernen sollte. Daher kann ich dieses Buch auch gar nicht oft genug empfehlen.
