Dogs are just amazing.  I watched a fantastic Nova documentary about how dogs have evolved specifically to work with and communicate with humans.  This article (see link) has some amazing images of different roles dogs played in the war.  Next Memorial Day, I'll be sure to add a special note of gratitude for all of the dogs, horses and other animals who gave their lives in service to their humans.
