This felt like it wanted to be two books. I wish it either concentrated more singularly on the nameless protagonist or on the role that baseball played in camp. Also the pitcher and the guard in the book both looked Asian to me. I'm not sure if that was on purpose since the pitcher is explicitly not Asian and I'd guess the guard is also supposed to be white? It's not a terrible book, but it's probably best read with at least a little background knowledge of camp.
