I won't be reviewing Fahrenheit 451 though I did enjoy reading it and discussing it with my daughter. Classics and mass market books are just not in need of my input. I will continue to review independently published novels, NetGalley ARCs, and books that I just feel like talking about.  ;-)

Reviews will be forthcoming for The Devil's Band and The Queen's Caprice.

I completed a surprising amount of my May TBR. Research on Queen Mary was the key area where I fell short, so those books are on here again. This is mostly because I am going back through books I have already read for sections on her before I start these new ones, so Mary has not been completely neglected.

The club read for More Historical Than Fiction is A Bloody Field by Shrewsbury. This is not on my list because I have already read it, but I look forward to the discussion of Henry Hotspur Percy (and all those other Henrys). Join us!

Audio Books:

The Last Lion

The Heretic's Daughter

Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy

The Outcasts by Kathleen Kent- some thoughts
The Outcasts - Kathleen Kent

I am giving this read a 3 star overall rating only because when I closed the book I had no unsatisfactory feelings.

I was originally drawn to this title because of the cover. I really wanted to know whether a gun was a necessary accessory for that particular dress. Then I read the synopsis...pirate gold, Texas Rangers, 19th century houses of ill-repute...all the makings of an intriguing adventure story.

Well, I struggled through the beginning it was soooo slow. There was alot of information being dropped like a trail of bread crumbs. However, I wouldn't go so far as to call it an "info dump". The story is told from 2 view points Nate and Lucinda alternating chapter to chapter, which can be a little confusing and stilted. At first I was expecting some kind of romance to blossom between the two but then was trying to figure out when their paths would even cross. It wasn't until just past the half way mark that things started to pick up pace. Pieces started connecting and all the clues in the beginning finally began to make sense. The further I read, more revelations occurred, and the stronger my desire to know what happens in the end grew. Definitely glad I stuck it out.

Wolf turned into a sheep!
The Wolves of Andover - Kathleen Kent

I usually love colonial period novels. This novel just did not do a thing for me. I thought it was draggy, and often a little boring. I like some of Kathleen Kent's other books, so I guess this one was just an anomaly for me. I can't really recommend it, as I just did not enjoy reading it at all. I did finish it, and I can't say that I changed my mind about the book once I knew the ending.
