quote 2015-07-16 18:56
As in most fairy tales, there was a kernel of truth in the myth of a banshee’s tears. Created to serve as a conduit of emotions, they let a banshee feed from a safe distance or simply store the emotion for later consumption. For though banshees were predators thriving on death, they were also fragile. Much like a rattlesnake, they left their poison, then sat back to feed in safety while others fought, loved, or killed each other.
Psychic vampires was what the psychology texts called them, a definition that Mia could not find fault with.

“I like attics. They’re as peaceful as God’s church. Alone and apart, but a body can hear everything. The past stacked up like forgotten memories, but with a small effort, brought down and enjoyed again.”

"Pow, you'll be naked!" Jenks exclaimed, sifting a bright gold dust. "On camera, in front
of a couple thousand people."
(..)God, my mother would be mortified, but then maybe not. She had grown up in the sixties.
She'd probably call her friends.

quote 2015-02-03 20:46
(...)and I frowned when I realized the file it was sitting on was Nick's.
Nick as in my former boyfriend Nick. Ex-rat, ex-boyfriend, ex-alive if I ever got hold of him Nick.
My shoulders tensed and I forced my jaw to not clench. Nick had been a rat when I met him. A real rat, with whiskers and a tail, transformed with witch magic by a peeved vampire
(...)I couldn't say much about that, though, since I'd been a mink at the time, thrown into Cincinnati's illegal rat fights for having been caught trying to pilfer evidence of illegal bio-drug activity from beloved city son Trent Kalamack.
