RIP Leafmarks

Today is the last day that Leafmarks will exist. They started up right after the Free Speech debacle at Goodreads in '13. Sadly, while quite a few high rollers from GR came over, they just never stuck around. They all went back to GR where the people's adoration was. Throw in the fact that one of the co-founders left after a couple of months to concentrate on her own blog [and stay active at GR as well] and things were off to a rough start.  Sadly, it just never really took off after that.

I enjoyed the site mainly because it gave me Librarian experience, which I've used here. It also had an export function. Which has been a lifesaver recently when I wanted to start keeping my reviews in an offline format.

I downloaded all my top Leafs and made a collage of them. I have to say, collecting Leafs made things a lot more fun. It was also nice to be in the Top 100 of several categories. I know, "big" fish in a small pond, but for my ego, it was enough.

So thank you Leafmarks. You tried valiantly. It just wasn't enough.

Leafmarks Community Challenge: Time 100, Reading List in Progress

I have a reading list in progress at http://booklikes.com/apps/reading-lists/657/leafmarks-community-challenge-time-100 to track books from the challenge that will be defunct July 1, 2016.

It's done when it's a 100-book list.

Replacement Leafmarks Community Challenge: 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die

See http://www.listchallenges.com/1001-books-you-must-read-before-you-die for the list (and a possible site for echoing the no-longer-available-after-July-1-2016 Leafmarks challenges you are currently in).

I'd also suggest in addition to or instead of the listchallenges website, creating a reading list on booklikes, a listopia on goodreads, plus on any of your books sites shelves or tags for the books in the challenges you were in on Leafmarks.  And sharing the links here of course.

I'm not going to make a booklikes reading list for that many books myself, but will be adding and postings ones for the Time 100, Modern Library Top 100, and my personal/friend challenges I was in over on Leafmarks.  After doublechecking no one already made.

I hope booklikes will be adding more challenge and lists features (plus, of course, upgrading the discussion rooms and fixing the #*!*(#$ persistent bugs ...)
