Deep Cover Detective, Lena Diaz
Deep Cover Detective (Marshland Justice) - Lena Diaz

I really enjoyed this romantic intrigue. Bought this at a used book sale and I voluntarily chose to review it. This is not for the under 18 readers, I've given it a 5* rating. There is a lot of non stop action in this to keep you turning the pages. There were a couple surprises along the way that I didn't see coming. I also liked the ending.

Hostage Negotiation by Lena Diaz
Hostage Negotiation (Marshland Justice) - Lena Diaz

Wow! This was quite a ride with loads of action  We're in Mystic Glades, the tiny, hidden-away town in the Florida Everglades from Deep Water Detective. Cole Larson is back, helping the new chief of police, Zack Scott, who literally runs into his love interest, Kaylee Brighton, who's been kidnapped by a maniac, but managed to escape. Of course, Zack and Kaylee fall in love - it's romantic suspense, after all. Here's the blurb:

Many women went missing outside Mystic Glades. She escaped.

When he took the job, Zack Scott heard about the horrors waiting in the swamp. So when Kaylee Brighton dashed into the road like the devil was on her tail, the new police chief gave her a safe place to recover. Imprisoned for months, Kaylee could lead Zack to her captor. Though Zack swore to protect her, only Kaylee knew the darkness that awaited them if she returned. She couldn't begin to understand what drove Zack, but she knew the importance of having him by her side. Because it wasn't enough for Kaylee to have escaped. Now it was time to take back her life.

This series is a winner so far.

Deep Cover Detective by Lena Diaz
Deep Cover Detective (Marshland Justice) - Lena Diaz

This one had me from page one, and there was no skip-skip. The plot is well-constructed with enough twists and turns to make for a very enjoyable read.

I liked that, for once, The woman, Silver, seduces the male lead, Colton:.

“Colton,” she whispered. “I want you.”
He swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing in his throat. “We’re working on a case. We don’t have time—”
“We do have time. Hours to kill before we can go talk to Mrs. Jones.”

And after the sex, which I actually read because it was rather well-written, in a lovely bit of turnabout:

She blinked down at him. “Wow. I don’t even want to know how many women you’ve kissed to become that great at it. The jealousy would kill me. Now get up and get dressed. I’m all focused again now—thank you for that, by the way—and ready to solve this case.”
She hopped off him and sashayed into the living room, already dressed and acting as if their lovemaking hadn’t knocked her off her axis as it had him. What had she said? She was focused again, thank you? He frowned. Did she have sex with near strangers often, to focus her thoughts?

There's the ritual hostage taking, but, for once, it isn't the woman who's the victim, which is a nice change.

Great read.

No Exit (EXIT Inc #2) by Lena Diaz
No Exit - Lena Diaz No Exit - Lena Diaz
The second book in the series continues where book one ended with Jace looking for a way in to EXIT to help take it down. Unfortunately, the only way is through their enemies daughter. They are sure of Melissa's knowledge of or involvement in EXIT's enforcement arm, but after months of surveillance, Jace can't believe that she even knows about her father's secret activities. Melissa may have been ignorant of her father's activities, but in the recent months she had some suspicions and began to investigate on her own. Jace's boss doesn't think that Melissa can be trusted and cuts off communication with him. As they work together to get to the truth and stop EXIT, they face danger from not only her father, but a traitor who is out for personal revenge. This was a fast-paced suspense that kept me glued to the pages wondering what was going to happen next and where the Equalizers go from here.

I received an ARC via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.
