Blog Tour & Review! Magnolia Mystic (Sentinels of Savannah #1) Lisa Kessler!
Magnolia Mystic - Lisa Kessler

Skye Olson is a psychic like her mother, and her grandmother before her, but a bad break up with the man she thought was her soulmate has left her confidence in her abilities shaken. While she's in crisis, a real estate tycoon from Atlanta swoops in with his eyes on her shop.

Colton Hayes spent his mortal life plundering royal ships with his pirate crew, but one holy relic changed everything. Now he and the rest of the crew protect the port of Savannah from their captain who traded his cutlass for a fountain pen.

When Colton discovers the captain wants to build a hotel in the heart of historic Savannah, he sets out to stop him, but nothing could prepare him for the sexy smile and violet eyes of the Magnolia Mystic.

Due to a bad breakup, psychic Skye Olson’s confidence has been shaken. Once a pirate, Colton Hayes is now a protector of the port of Savannah but he is not prepared for the sexy smile and violet eyes of the Magnolia Mystic.

This romance is sweet and adventurous as Skye and Colton work through not only their emotional issues, but secrets that change Skye’s reality and a captain intent on Skye’s shop. The story is short and fast paced with lots of intrigue, sizzling chemistry and swashbuckling fun with a few surprising twists just to keep readers on their toes.

Lisa Kessler has taken what would usually be in a historical romance, sexy pirates, (oh my!), and put them in a clever paranormal romance with a few twists. The concept is fascinating and the characters are strong and charming, and I really wish this story had been a bit longer because it was quite a delightful introduction to the Sentinels of Savannah series and I am looking forward to reading Pirate’s Passion which releases in October.

“Tour’s up on the bow.” A tall shadow fell over her.

She didn’t take her eyes off the river. “I know, thanks.”

His boots thumped on the deck behind her. “I wasn’t givin’ directions.”

She sighed and glanced over her shoulder. Her gaze traveled up his body, way up, to focus on his dark eyes. “I just need a minute.”

He shook his head, crossing his tan muscled arms over his broad chest. “Plenty of minutes are available with the tour. This area’s off-limits.”

He was just doing his job, but her tolerance for men was at an all-time low at the moment. “I’m not going to touch anything.”

His eyes moved to her feet and back to her face. “Seems you already are.”

Heat burned in her cheeks. “What is it with you men thinking you can just make a law and judge us when we question it?” She jammed the ring in the pocket of her jeans. “I’m sick of your shit. So if you want me to move, you’ll have to do it yourself.”

He raised a brow. “You finished?”

His calm only fueled the tempest inside her. “No, actually, I don’t think I am.” She matched his posture: chest out, arms crossed. “My family’s been in Savannah since it was settled. I know the pirate stories, and I didn’t buy a ticket for a tour and ‘swearing in’ ceremony under the pirate mast. Forgive me for wanting a few minutes peace with the Savannah River.”

He pointed to a sign.

Area is for Crew Only

A spark lit in his eyes. “If you’d been sworn in, you might be able to sway me to let you stay.”

She blew out a frustrated breath, her hands falling to her sides. “Look, I just wanted to toss my engagement ring into the river without getting arrested for littering. I figured no one would see me from up here.”

He relaxed his stance a little. “Must be an idiot to allow a fiery lass like you to get away.”

“Please don’t get flirty.” She rolled her eyes. “I’m not in the mood.”

A hint of a smile curved his lips. “Wasn’t flirtin’, just stating a fact.” He glanced over his shoulder. “Speaking of facts, you should pawn the ring. Feedin’ gold to the fish won’t cure heartache.”

Legend of Love: Muse of Epic Poetry - Callie - Lisa Kessler

Book two in the Muses series brings us Navy Seal, Hunter, and the psychologist, Callie. He is sent to her after a rough mission, but he has no interest in talking and getting his head examined by an "old man". When he discovers that his doctor is a beautiful female he still doesn’t want to talk about how his mission went wrong but he does want to go out on a date. Callie holds out strongly and stubbornly, but Hunter draws her in and when she discovers he is her Guardian it makes it even harder to resist his charm. As they grow closer, the Kronos Worshipers single Callie out as their next victim and it is up to Hunter to keep her safe. I enjoyed their story. The Order of Kronos is a bit weak for the bad guys. The members are part of a big oil conglomerate and yet they have to brain wash someone in order to make him fanatical enough to murder without question. They need to be more ruthless and aggressive. They come off as a bit passive compared to the strong protagonists in the story. Other than that, I enjoyed book two as much as book one. Looking forward to reading about Reed next.

Legend of Love: Muse of Epic Poetry - Callie - Lisa Kessler

*Disclaimer: I received an eARC of this book from Netgalley and Lisa Kessler in exchange for an honest review. This does not influence my rating or the content of my review in any way.

I'm completely in love with this series, and I'm waiting anxiously for each and every book in this series. The second book in this series takes the story further, by introducing a new Guardian, Hunter, but also by making the villains more evil and scarier, maybe even a little bit deranged.

Hunter is an interesting choice for a Guardian. I like how his military career was portrayed and how it played into his role as a Guardian. I also liked the fact that he didn't have the same gift as Nate, so I'm assuming each Guardian will have different gifts. I'm also assuming that their gifts are somehow tied to what the Muse they're protecting.

Callie was a great heroine. I like how she dedicates herself to working with military men and women, to help them heal from traumas from being in war zones. The thing I liked most about her is that she's not perfect, she has a little bit of a wildness in her, due to her Muse, that she tries a lot to keep under control.

I liked Callie and Hunter together, they make a great team, and I liked the little glimpse into Mel and Nate's future. The pacing was great, and there were a few developments in the overall story, that of some really deranged people trying to keep the Muses from opening up the Theater of the Muses, that I'm very curious to see how it will play out in the future books.

All in all, a great book and one that any urban fantasy lover should add to their TBR piles.

Trust in love and soul brings two together
Lure of Obsession - Lisa Kessler

This is an intriguing story. Mythology mixing with the contemporary world. The instant attraction between Mel and Nate warned of something beyond them. Nate doubts himself but has such a big heart. It took Mel to push a bit to open him up. Their interactions with Maggie had tears in my eyes. I loved the HEA and look forward to more in this series to continue with the backstory.

I received a copy of this story through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.

Lure of Obsession - Lisa Kessler

This one was such an easy read. I finished it in a day. It is very similar to the Paladins of Darkness series by Alexis Morgan, the Eternal Guardians series by Elizabeth Naughton, and the Iron Portal series by Laurie London. The characters were easy to like, the conflict was believable, the passion was great, and the love story developed steadily. I liked the role reversal with the fact that the man is the one who comes to know the paranormal exists rather than the female.  The women come into their muse at 18 where the Guardians don't come into their abilities until they cross path with their muse, so it is left to the women to induct the strong alpha type men into their world. It was a fun read and I'm glad I picked it up on NetGalley.
