Goodnight Moon
Goodnight Moon - Margaret Wise Brown,Clement Hurd

Before going to sleep, a little rabbit says goodnight to all his familiar possessions as his big, green bedroom slowly darkens. Tucked away in bed, the little bunny says "Goodnight room, goodnight moon." Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown

Guided Reading: Level H

Classroom Activities:

Read Goodnight Moon  while encouraging students to join in on the words they are familiar with;  Let students take turns masking letters in the context of the story such as 'G', 'm', 'b', 'c', 'r'. Also, see if students can locate the sight word 'and' on various pages

"The Great Green Room"
Goodnight Moon - Margaret Wise Brown,Clement Hurd

Review:

Goodnight Moon is about a little bunny who likes to say goodnight to everything in his room. This book is a great introduction to poetry into a classroom. There are several other nursery rhymes that would also go with this book but this one is my favorite. This book puts a fun twist on bedtime.

Leveling System:

Lexile AD360L

Classroom Activity:

I would introduce this book by allowing the students to tell me a few things they do to get ready for bed. Then  the students will be asked to take a picture walk through out the book and tell me what all they see.  We will read the story as a class. We will discuss all the things the bunny said goodnight to, to avoid going to bed. Then we will discuss how and what type of rhymes this book includes. We will also use this as an introduction to nursery rhymes.

Goodnight Moon

Goodnight Moon is a book that students could use a scavenger hunt for while reading. Students could also research the moon and facts about the moon. This book is a level 16 on the DRA leveling system.

Goodnight Moon - Margaret Wise Brown,Clement Hurd

Brief Review:

Good night moon is about saying good night using rhyming words.

Idea of how it can be used in a classroom:

Good night moon could be used in the classroom to ask the students what their bedtime routine is who do you say good night to at the end of the day. The teacher could have the students sit in a circle discussing as a class.

Reading Level & Leveling System:

Lexile Scale

AD360L

Pre-K to K

Book Rating:

I would rate this book a 3 because it has a lot of rhyming words that students could use to practice rhyming words with.
