Birdman (Movie Review)

I went out of my way to drive to the special art theater to see this. What a waste. Completely pointless. I'm not sure I could even explain what the movie was about. The ending made absolutely no sense. The script was really bad. But my husband liked it.

Gone Girl Movie Review - No Spoilers

I didn't read the book so I have no comparison. The movie was interesting, but I'm not sure why it's getting such rave reviews. A bit bloated at 2 1/2 hours, I think I should have rented it instead. The main actress spoke so softly that I sometimes had a hard time hearing her. I have to believe that the book was better.

A Most Wanted Man (Movie Review)

I really didn't want to see this movie. It was the hubby's turn to pick, and this seemed tolerable. I'm glad I went. This could certainly be seen as a rental. There's really not a lot of action. Instead, there was a very steady, extremely interesting, easy to follow, but not brainless, plot taking place. The acting was phenomenal. It made me miss Philip Seymour Hoffman even more. He was brilliant.  I spent the whole movie wondering what would happen next and never took my eyes off the screen.  I didn't read the book so I have no comparison to offer on that front.

Plot Summary:

When a half-Chechen, half-Russian, brutally tortured immigrant turns up in Hamburg's Islamic community, laying claim to his father's ill gotten fortune, both German and US security agencies take a close interest: as the clock ticks down and the stakes rise, the race is on to establish this most wanted man's true identity - oppressed victim or destruction-bent extremist? Based on John le Carré's novel, A MOST WANTED MAN is a contemporary, cerebral tale of intrigue, love, rivalry, and politics that prickles with tension right through to its last heart-stopping scene.

November Man (Movie Review)

Worth the price of a matinee ticket. I enjoyed the movie, liked the actors, and found the plot to be interesting and easy to follow. Not a lot of action so it doesn't have to be seen on the big screen. Pierce's accent was a tad hard to understand sometimes so closed captioning might have been helpful in this case.

Per IMDBAn ex-CIA operative is brought back in on a very personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high level CIA officials and the Russian president-elect.

Edge of Tomorrow (Movie Review)

Enjoyable, action-packed popcorn flick. Cruise was good and fit the role nicely. Blunt was also good but they didn't give her enough of a personality. It was the biggest fault in the movie for me.  The "groundhog day" approach was actually done very well. It never got annoying. The aliens were pretty awesome. I didn't see the 3D version, but there was enough action that it might have been worth it.
