"Colors of Christmas" Two Contemporary Stories Celebrate The Hope of Christmas By Olivia Newport

My Thoughts....

Two Contemporary Stories Celebrate The Hope of Christmas:

Christmas in Gold

What a story that had me in tears...What will happen when a older woman [Astrid] falls and breaks her ankle. Then her family wants to put her in an assistant living facility. Wow, what a family! You will just have to pick this one up to see how it will all come out as she meets a Physical Therapist named Carly.

Then next we have....

Christmas in Blue

This was such a wonderful contemporary heartwarming story of 'love, loss and the beauty of family and friends.' What will happen as a mysterious stranger [Gabe] appears in town to help Angela. How will this take a turn and instead of dread there will be 'joy and tenderness in Angela's heart' for this holiday.

Both of these stories are well written and will contain a message that is only for the reader to receive. I found these stories tender, so endearing and hopefully one hearts will be lifted for this Christmas holiday season from the read. I was left to be reminded to be 'thankful and never take anything for granted.'

Thank you to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing, Inc. for a review copy in exchange for my honest review.

Day 9 Spines - another IG post from COYER Summer 2017 edition https://www.instagram.com/p/BXtcs5LhArT/?taken-by=tearainbook

Day 8 Funny - Is it Just Me? by Miranda Hart (and it is a shame she isn't more loved by folks in the US)

Day 7 Sad - The Mercy of the Sky by Holly Bailey (the part when she wrote of the rescue and recovery at the elementary school killed me)

Day 6 Time - Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson (a great middle grade book about a yellow fever epidemic in Philadelphia)

Day 5 Place - The Dilemma of Charlotte Farrow by Olivia Newport (Chicago during the World's Fair)

Day 4 Plans - my bedroom will be center stage for my reading - it is the only place I can get some quiet.

Day 3 Break - I plan on taking a break to sleep. A short catnip can give the reader a better recharge than drinking caffeine. I plan to get a few hours over the course of the read-a-thon.

Day 2 New - Saga series by Brian Kl Vaughan and Fiona Staples

Day 1 Stack - Books by Michael Lewis I have read and recommend:

                       Moneyball

                       Liar's Poker

                       The Big Short

                       Boomerang

                       Flash Boys

Great Read
The Billionaire Playboy (The Sherbrookes of Newport Book 2) - Christina Tetreault

The Billionaire Playboy by Christina Tetreault is a great read.  This is a fairly short read, perfect for those with limited time for reading.  Ms Tetreault has delivered a well-written book.  The characters are fantastic.  Charlotte (Charlie) and Jake's story is stuffed with drama, action, humor and sizzle.  I totally enjoyed this book and look forward to my next read by Christina Tetreault.  The Billionaire Playboy is book 2 of The Serbrookes Of Newport Series but can be read as a standalone.  This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

The Pursuit of Lucy Banning: A Novel (Avenue of Dreams, # 1) - Olivia Newport Loved this well-written sweet romance! Unfortunately the rest of the series is not on Kindle Unlimited so I'm not able to read them at this time.

Review: The Dilemma of Charlotte Farrow (Avenue of Dreams #2) by Olivia Newport
The Dilemma of Charlotte Farrow - Olivia Newport

This book was just not for me. I continued reading it simply to get it off my TBR pile and to have something to read on today's bus trip. Charlotte was the most cowardly heroine I have come across in a while and boring to read about to boot. Archie was too pushy and pretty stalkerish. Sarah was obnoxious and her quick 180 degree flip in personality at the end of the book to set up her as the heroine in the next book was not executed well. The Bannings were your typical rich white family.

The writing is competent and I really liked how Chicago in 1893 really came through via placement of historically accurate details and events (such as the World's Fair and the beginnings of a the 20th century labor movement). The religious tone is pretty light and done with a deft touch to make you feel like the characters' faiths are really authentic. If you like Christian fiction (women's and/or historical) and Downton Abbey, this is your book. 2 stars.
